With just over 100 residents, Seema’s shelter home tirelessly works to provide them with a comfortable life. Despite juggling a full-time job, Seema, a school teacher, devotes herself to running the shelter home. She believes in giving back to the community, impacting numerous lives as an educator. In her spare time, she ensures the residents’ needs are met, from planning their diets to managing medication supplies.
“When I started this shelter home, I had no idea that one day so many people would be depending on my care. A few months ago, we rescued a 60 YO lady who has been living on the streets for many years now. We got a call about her when she met with a terrible accident and no one was ready to help her. She was in a terrible state, we didn’t think she would make it. But she did! She is now staying at our shelter and getting all the love and care she deserves. It makes me so happy to think that we were able to save her life.”
“My mother was fighting rare condition and I regularly took her to Tata Memorial Hospital for her treatment. That was when I noticed families huddled together outside the hospital, on the pavement – waiting for their turn to get treated. Most of them have been starving for days. I kept wondering if there was something I could do for them…” – Seema, Founder, Sarthak Charitable Trust.
Seema’s mother lost her fight to rare condition after a tough battle and while Seema was heartbroken, her resolve to help the poor and the underprivileged became stronger.
Seema works day and night for the homeless and the abandoned. Most of the residents who live at the shelter suffer from severe mental illnesses. As a result, it becomes impossible for her to track down their families. Sometimes, they get agitated and end up hurling things at the caretakers. But nothing deters Seema and her dedicated team. They do everything in their power to comfort them.
Seema is juggling a full-time job while she is running this shelter home. She believes in giving back to the community and is a school teacher who is touching several lives and making an impact. In her spare time, she makes arrangements for the residents of the shelter home, plans their diet, checks which medications need to be stocked up, etc.
We will share recent updates and progress of this campaign here. Stay tuned for the latest developments and success stories.
